Remove a simple solid-color background
This tool is a basic color-key remover, not an AI segmentation tool. It begins with the upper-left pixel as the default background color, then removes pixels close to the selected color according to the tolerance slider.
How to use this tool
- Choose an image with a mostly uniform background, ideally contrasting with its subject.
- Check the Background Color To Remove control and adjust it if the sampled corner is not representative.
- Increase tolerance gradually while checking subject edges in the preview.
- Export as PNG to preserve transparent pixels.
Practical tips
- If the subject has the same color as the background, it may become transparent too.
- A smaller tolerance protects neighboring colors but leaves more background fringe.
- For complex hair, shadows, patterned rooms, or multiple background colors, use a dedicated masking workflow.
Common questions
Is this an automatic AI background remover?
No. The current version removes pixels that match one selected color within a tolerance.
Why is part of the subject missing?
The subject and background may have similar colors; lower the tolerance or change the target color.
Limitations: The algorithm treats matching pixels throughout the image, not only the connected background. Review the output before using it commercially.
